What is Voice Dialogue?

What is Voice Dialogue?

Voice Dialogue is an experiential and embodied approach to exploring the many selves within us. While it shares some similarities with Internal Family Systems (IFS), Voice Dialogue has its own unique history and approach, with roots in Jungian psychology.

What makes Voice Dialogue distinctive is that it moves beyond understanding ourselves intellectually. Through a process of dialogue and embodied awareness, we meet the different aspects of ourselves as they are, allowing new insights, perspectives, and possibilities to emerge.

The basic idea

We are not a single, fixed self. Throughout our lives, different aspects of ourselves develop to help us navigate relationships, work, challenges, and the world around us. These selves carry their own perspectives, emotions, beliefs, and ways of seeing.

Over time, we tend to identify with certain selves that become familiar and valued. These primary selves often help us function and navigate life, but we may also disown or push away other aspects of ourselves because they do not feel acceptable, safe, or welcomed.

In Voice Dialogue, we explore both our primary selves and our disowned selves. Through this process, we learn to separate from habitual identifications while developing a deeper relationship with the full range of who we are. Rather than trying to eliminate or change any aspect of ourselves, we cultivate greater awareness, choice, and freedom.

What happens in a session

In a Voice Dialogue session, we invite different aspects of self into awareness through an embodied process of exploration and dialogue. By stepping into and experiencing different selves directly, we can begin to understand their perspectives, intentions, and the roles they have played in our lives.

What it can offer

Through this process, we can recognize patterns that have shaped our lives, access new possibilities, and develop a greater capacity to respond from awareness rather than automatic identification.
